Coppell
Coppell High School is a secondary school located in Coppell, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. Currently, it is the only high school in the Coppell Independent School District. The school graduated its first class of twenty-three students in 1965. As of the 2006-2007 school year, current enrollment is 2,960 students in grades 9 through 12. There are over 200 staff members at Coppell High School in order to accommodate the student body of nearly 3000. The school colors are red, black, and white. Parents of this school's students previously voted to remove many vocational programs from the school in order to add more classes for college preparation. students can gain local credit on all graduation plans through a variety of classes. However, of the 24 credits required to graduate all 24 must be state credits for the recommended plan and 22 must be state credits for the minimum plan.
The school was rated academically unacceptable by the state of Texas However, it claimed there were errors in the ranking, and appealed it. On October 20, 2005, the appeal was successful, and Coppell High School regained its academically acceptable status. The Coppell High School Marching Band is considered to be one of the best bands in the country. The band has won many prestigious awards in the past years. They won the 4A state title in 1999 and placed seventh in the finals after placing third in the preliminary elimination round for the 2006 state marching contest. Mr. Brad Hunt is the Principal of the school.
Academic Activities are Drama Club and International Thespian Society, National Art Honor Society, National French Honor Society, National German Honor Society, National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society Speech and Debate Club Yearbook. Coppell High School is a part of district 7-5A. Their athletic success is a direct result of their wonderful coaches and talented athletes.
The Coppell High School boys and girls soccer programs are among the most successful in the nation. Both the Cowboys and Cowgirls have won numerous tournaments, district titles, area titles, and regional titles and participated in a combined 8 state title tournaments. In 2004 the Cowboys brought home the school's first 5A Soccer Championship.
Their goal is to develop critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills without losing sight of the special needs of the middle school child.
