Walton
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Walton is a top high school situated in the United States. George Walton Comprehensive High School, usually referred to simply as Walton High School, is located in Marietta, Georgia and houses a student body of around 2,500. The school was established in the year 1975. Raider is the mascot of the school with colors red, white and blue. It is a school of excellence and one of the top schools academically in Georgia. It is also a charter school with Dr. Tom Higgins as the principal.
Renowned throughout the state for both academic and athletic excellence, Walton High School was named in 1999 as the fifth best high school in the nation by United States news and world report. In recent years, Walton has been among the top high schools in Georgia in Scholastic aptitude test scores. The class of 2006 had 603 students and had over 500 students who took Advanced Placement exams, thus having the highest AP exam scores in the state, as well as the most test takers overall.
Walton won the first two all sports trophies in Georgia history, as well as five consecutive volleyball championships. In recent years, it has won state championships in girl's and boy's tennis, girls cross country and boy's soccer. Walton's band and orchestra each comprise over 200 students. Both receive consistent superior ratings at district festivals. In 2002, the orchestra had performed in New Orleans at the National School Board Association Convention.
The mission of Walton High School is to prepare students to become confident, competent, ethical individuals and responsible citizens by creating a positive and nurturing school environment where staff, students, parents and the community work together to promote lifelong learning and to provide opportunities for students to reach their maximum potential. The students and faculty blend rigorous academic studies and exchanges into lives lived fully and committed to making a difference.
