High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.

Wilbert Tucker Woodson High School or W.T. Woodson High School is a secondary school located in Fairfax County, Virginia on 9525 Main Street. The school was opened in 1962 and once was the largest school in the state, with a one-time population of over 3,000 students. Currently, the student population is around 2,100. Woodson has the biggest campus in Fairfax county in size of area, and also houses Woodson Adult High School, a program designed to allow adults to earn their GED, the General Educational Development. The school is named after Wilbert Tucker Woodson, superintendent of Fairfax County Public Schools from 1929 to 1961.

Robert J. Elliott is the principal. Their school colors are navy blue, white and red. Woodson's mascot is the cavalier. The sports teams play in the AAA Liberty District and the Northern Region. The girl's field hockey team won over Princess Anne High School in the state finals in 2004, and the girl's Lacrosse team won states in 2005. The band received the prestigious Sudler Flag of Honor in 1995. The choral department has distinguished itself as one of the finest programs in the state and the nation.

The school department includes art, deaf and hard of hearing, English, foreign language, health and physical education, learning disabilities, mathematics, music and performance arts, physical disabilities, science, social studies and technology support. Their athletics department includes many sports according to seasons. Their winter sports are basketball, wrestling and indoor track. Spring sports are baseball, soccer, softball and tennis. Fall sports are cheer, cross country, football, golf and volleyball.

Their mission is to provide a safe, supportive environment that promotes tolerance and respect for diversity. They challenge students to become active learners and critical thinkers, and foster the development of scholarship, leadership, citizenship and integrity.
