Vance
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Zebulon B. Vance High School, which opened in August 1997 in Governors' Village, has an interdisciplinary focus that undergirds the entire instructional program. The comprehensive high school offers a full range of regular, advanced, Academically Gifted and Advanced Placement courses, along with French, Latin, German and Spanish.
Vance High School is guided by the vision of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. This vision is continued developing into an educational system in which all students acquire the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to live rich and full lives as productive and enlightened members of society. Athletics at Vance High School includes cross country, football, soccer, tennis, volleyball, basketball, swimming and diving, indoor track, and wrestling.
The Career Cluster approach to Workforce Development includes interior design, drafting, food science, health occupations, electronics, principles of technology and child development. Students in the northeastern part of the county are assigned to the school. In addition, one third of Vance's students attend as part of the Workplace Magnet program that requires parents to volunteer in the school.
The Vance High School aims on targeting the success of their students. The institution is renowned due to qualities like supportive learning environment, respected and enthusiastic staff and faculty members, and the capability to meet the needs of the community’s wide ranging requirements.
