Towson
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Towson is a top high school situated in the United States. Towson High School is a high school in Baltimore County, Maryland. Its name is derived from its existence in the Baltimore suburb Towson, Maryland, and the school is part of the Baltimore County Public Schools system. It is one of the longest-operating public high schools in the United States, and has been housed in its current campus since the late 1940s. The current principal is Dr. Jane Barranger.
Since Towson High school is a magnet school for Law and Public Policy, students come from a variety of areas, though many of the main middle schools that feed into Towson High are Dumbarton Middle School, Ridgely Middle School, and Loch Raven Technical Academy. The school consists of 5 floors. The fourth floor was originally designed to be housing for the school's principal then became an art studio, and currently contains two classrooms and a computer lab.
Towson High School has been in three previous buildings. The first was built in the mid-1800, and was a small farm house. This was the only semi-public school in the entire county. This was a landmark step for the educational process in the county. The traditional rivals of Towson High School's Generals are the Lions of Dulaney High School. Towson High School's Marching Band, though nonexistent for some time, was recently restarted by band director David Rhen.
Located within the seat of Baltimore County Government, Towson High School Law and Public Policy is a diverse suburban high school that prepares students to become life-long learners and productive global citizens. Their mission is to provide a safe, supportive environment that promotes tolerance and respect for diversity. They challenge students to become active learners and critical thinkers, and foster the development of scholarship, leadership, citizenship and integrity.
