Stratford
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Stratford High School is a secondary school in Houston in Texas. Ann Kucera is the principal as well as the administrator. The school type is public school and the mascot of this school is Spartans. The school colors are green and white. The school is a part of the Spring Branch Independent School district and serves grades 9 to 12. It is located in the western portion of Houston, in the region known as the memorial area and serves several neighborhoods. In 2005, Newsweek named Stratford one of the best high schools in the nation and in 2006, the school was ranked as 187th in the United States.
Stratford provides courses in the traditional academic subjects, as well as several foreign languages, technology, vocational education, athletics and fine arts. Several different advanced placement courses are offered at Stratford and consistently over 95 percent of seniors attend college after graduating. Career and technology department offers a wide variety of practical electives, including business, computer science, journalism, nutrition and child care. Stratford High School has been named a National Exemplary School, as well as a Texas Exemplary School by the Texas Education Association.
The school curriculum, as well as curricular and extra curricular activities, includes experiences that enable students to realize their potential. In 1978, Stratford's football team won the state championship and in 2006 season the football team won its first district championship. The Stratford Orchestra has been named the Texas state Honor Orchestra for multiple years. The Stratford playhouse puts on award winning theater productions that attract patrons from throughout the Houston area.
The mission of Stratford High School is to provide their students equal opportunities to grow along with all round development. It helps the students to understand their true potential and helps them to acquire knowledge in a unique way resulting in the development of values which are essential for future success.
