Stone Bridge
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
SBHS, Stone Bridge High School is a public secondary school in Ashburn, Virginia. It is part of Loudoun County Public Schools. Stone Bridge School is a coed private K-12 Christian day school also in Chesapeake. Stone Bridge High School serves the northwestern part of Ashburn, including the Ashburn Farm, Belmont Ridge, Belmont Country Club communities and the Lansdowne community in Leesburg.
Stone Bridge opened in 2000, with its student body coming from Broad Run High School and Loudoun County High School. The principal is Mr. James Person, who has been there since the school opened. The 2004-2005 school year, the student body went up to nearly 1,900 students, the biggest enrollment at the time for a Loudoun County high school.
Stone Bridge High School offers a comprehensive curriculum to all of its students. Upon graduation, students receive either the Standard or Advanced Studies diplomas. SBHS offers standard courses in English, Mathematics, Science and Social Science. Stone Bridge currently offers five foreign languages in Spanish, French, Latin, German, and American Sign Language.
SBHS offers a wide variety of elective courses in a wide variety of areas, including Marketing, Technology, Home Economics, Art, Music, and Advanced Physical Education. Many of the elective courses offered at Stone Bridge require a great deal of work outside the classroom. Stone Bridge participates in the Advanced Placement program for students who wish to take college level courses in high school. Stone Bridge is best known for their football and cheerleading teams, and also has one of the strongest volleyball, softball, and girl’s soccer teams in Virginia.
Stone Bridge High School is highly academic and offers not only several Advanced Placement courses, but a wide variety of athletic and extra curricular opportunities for all students.
