High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
 
Stephen F. Austin High School, founded in 1881, is the oldest public high school West of the Mississippi River. The current campus is located near downtown Austin along the Colorado River. The school, initially known simply as Austin High School, was renamed in 1953 after Stephen F. Austin, known as the Father of Texas. Austin High School is one of eleven high schools in the Austin Independent School District.
 
Roughly 2,400 students attend the school in grades nine through twelve. The school's current location is the third in its history. The Principal is Mr. John Hudson and Assistant Principals are Mr. Andrew Lofters and Mr. John Machicek. Austin High School has consistently excelled in academics.
 
Austin High School offers many courses that prepare students for the real world of business, such as Accounting I, Business Computer Information Systems I and II, Business Law, Introduction to Business, Marketing Dynamics, Business Image Management and Multimedia, Computer Science, Web Mastering, Business Ownership, and Business Management. In sports the school offer baseball, boys' basketball, girls' basketball, cross country, football, boys' golf, girls' golf, boys' soccer, girls' soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track, volleyball, and wrestling etc.

At Austin High School, their mission is to assure every student the opportunity to develop academic, social, and workplace skills for a productive and positive contribution in a diverse and changing world.
