High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
 
Stephen F. Austin High School is a secondary school located at Dumble Street in Houston, Texas. The school handles grades nine through twelve and is a part of the Houston Independent School District. The Principal is Linda Llorente. The mascot is Mustangs and school colors are green and gray. The school, named after Stephen F. Austin, is located in the Second Ward area. The neighborhood was developed in the 1920s and the school's Art Deco architecture reflects this.  
 
As of 2006, all Austin students are required to wear a school uniform that consists of a green or white buttoned-down shirt and khaki trousers, skirts, or dresses. Houston ISD provides school buses for students who live more than two miles away from the school or who have major obstacles between their houses and the school. Students are eligible if they are zoned to Austin or are in the Austin magnet program.
