Signature School
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Signature High School is located at Evansville, Indiana. The school opened in 2002 and is Indiana's first public charter high school. Prior to that, it operated as a satellite school for the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation. In 2006, it was named the 54th best high school in the country by Newsweek magazine. The Principal of the school is a Vicki Snyder.
The school offers students three major study paths math and science, fine and performing arts. Signature School has been recently accepted into the International Baccalaureate Program. The school has a total enrollment of 273 students. The school was founded in part by the current principal Vicki Snyder. The school prides itself on offering challenging courses for the self-motivated learner and for being different from other area schools. Signature School allows its students to eat off campus and gives the students the freedom to have laptops, drinks and snacks in the classroom.
At Signature School, their mission is to meet the needs of self-motivated learners in a progressive environment driven by global concerns. They emphasize rigor and excellence in academics, the arts and integrated technologies.
