Riverwood
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Riverwood is centrally located in Sandy Springs, offering both the international studies magnet and international baccalaureate programs to students from the entire school district. Principal Eddie Echols is committed to creating a safe and comfortable environment where students can learn, teachers can teach and parents can be involved.
Riverwood offers foreign language instruction in six languages, including Hebrew, Japanese, and Chinese. College prep offerings include Advanced Placement courses in 15 subjects, and 17 different international baccalaureate courses, all taught by certified IB teachers, in areas from higher level mathematics to 20th century history to theory of knowledge. While predominately a college prep high school, Riverwood also offers career training or electives in electronic media production, professional foods, business education and diversified technology.
Located on 20 plus acres in Sandy Springs, Riverwood has a state of the art physical plant that offers many features and amenities. These include 500 seats performing arts center, culinary arts lab with full restaurant kitchen, electronic media production lab, diversified technology lab, 7 computer labs, 5 science labs, media center with 15 internet stations, guidance suite with computerized college and career center, football stadium, 2 gyms, baseball field, softball field and tennis courts.
The mission of Riverwood high school is to educate and challenge students to become respectful and responsible citizens equipped with knowledge and skills necessary to successfully communicate, solve problems and use technology in the 21st century as a part of an ever-changing global society.
