Pittsford Mendon
High school is a name used in some parts of the world and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11 and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Pittsford Mendon is a top high school situated in the United States. Centralized in 1946, the Pittsford Central School district is one of the top school districts in the county, the state and the nation. The 30 square miles that comprise the school district include portions of the towns of Pittsford, Perinton, Penfield, Victor, Mendon and Brighton. The district's programs, staff and curriculum are considered among the best available in schools anywhere. Over 1,100 employees including teachers, administrators and support staff provide quality services for an enrollment of over 6,100 students in nine school buildings.
It offers a variety of courses, with numerous Advanced Placement, AP, courses in Science, English, Social Studies, Math, Art, Foreign Language and Music. Some contest that the reason for Mendon's excellence in both the quality and quantity of AP courses is the freedom allowed to students after the exams. Unlike most students in New York State, Mendon students were not required to attend their AP classes after the AP exam has been taken, encouraging many students to take courses they would not otherwise have enrolled in. In the 2006 to 2007 school year this policy was ended by the district to mixed criticism by teachers and students.
Mendon is consistently on the newsweek Top 100 list for High Schools in the United States. The mission of Mendon High School is to provide their students equal opportunities to grow along with all round development. It helps the students to understand their true potential. The students acquire knowledge in a unique way resulting in the development of values which are essential for future success.
