Pioneer
High school is a name used in some parts of the world and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11 and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Pioneer High School is a public school located in Ann Arbor in Michigan. The school was established in the year 1856. The mascot of this school is pioneers and the colors are purple and white. The school is well known for its strong academics, sports and music programs. Pioneer was designated the National Grammy Signature High School for the year 2005 to 2006. Currently, the school is the largest public school in the state in terms of student body, although the new high school that is set to open in Ann Arbor in the fall of 2008 will probably reduce the number of students.
The school has various departments such as math, multimedia, robotics, science, social studies and many more. Pioneer's musical and athletic successes can reasonably be tied to possessing a large and diverse student body. At the same time, successes can also be attributed to the school's reputation which draws a wide selection of teachers, coaches and other faculty. The school believes in all round development of the students. It prepares the students to be and technologically sound to become effective workers and responsible citizens.
Most importantly the common belief is that all students can learn regardless of their race, ethnicity, culture, gender or socioeconomic background. The mission of the school is to ensure that every student is provided with an environment which is safe, friendly and supportive. The staff encourages learning and self development, a curriculum which is designed to foster educational growth, career decisions and self esteem. The school provides the students equal opportunities to grow along with all round development.
