Marshall
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
George C. Marshall High School was established in 1963. George C. Marshall High School is a public secondary school in Falls Church, Virginia and part of Fairfax County Public Schools. It is one of only two schools in the world with a high school program named after former secretary of state George C. Marshall. Jay Pearson is the principal of the school.
Marshall High School is a fully accredited high school based on the Standards of Learning tests in Virginia. The average SAT, the Scholastic Aptitude Test score in 2006 for Marshall is 1,613. Marshall High School has a Business Academy offering specialized classes and also offers courses through the International Baccalaureate Program. Marshall's mascot is the griffin and their teams play in the AAALiberty District and Northern Region of the Virginia High School League. Marshall's enrollment however is at the AA level, but chooses to petition to play in AAA to the VHSL, the Virginia High School Leagueto maintain rivalries with local schools.
George C. Marshall High School prepares students to be successful citizens of the global community. They provide an intellectually challenging curriculum for all their students. They model and teach the ethical values of respect, responsibility, honesty, spirit, and community as exemplified in the Statesmen code. They communicate by exchanging information, ideas, and viewpoints among students, teachers, administrators, support staff, parents, and other members of the community to improve student achievement and build public support. This strong partnership among the members of the Marshall community helps their students realize their educational, personal, and career goals.
