High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.

Marquette High School opened its doors in August 1993 to 950 9th and 10th grade students. They are situated in suburban west Saint Louis County, part of the Rockwood School District. Marquette High School is one of four high schools in the Rockwood School District. It services one of the fastest growing areas. The staff of Marquette High School works to provide students with a solid basis for learning that will continue for the rest of their lives.

Marquette boasts fine science lab facilities, instrumental and vocal music facilities and industrial and business technology labs. The entire facility is wired for computer and video networking. Faculties use the computer network for taking attendance, grading, internet and email. Programs and initiatives are in place to provide their students with optimum learning opportunities that promote academic excellence. An extensive extracurricular program also enhances the personal growth of their students.

The curriculum of Marquette offers courses at all levels of learning, including an active college preparatory program heavy in AP, Advancement Placement Weighted Grade and Honors level courses. They offer different types of courses through department like business, science, journalism, foreign language, and music and technology education. Marquette students consistently score higher than the state and national average on both the ACT and SAT, the Scholastic Aptitude Test.

They believe the opportunity for participation in a wide variety of student-selected activities is a vital part of the student's educational experience. Marquette High School was named by Newsweek magazine as one of the Top High Schools in the United States. This designation was based on the number of students who take Advanced Placement Tests. They offer the club facility that includes art club, creative writing club, federal challenge team and Greek club.

The mission of Marquette High School, home of the Mustangs, is to provide a safe and secure environment that will inspire, challenge, and encourage each student to develop a mature intellectual, creative, social, and physical foundation for lifelong learning in a global society. They support this through a concentrated effort of the entire Marquette family including students, staff, parents and community.
