Marietta
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Marietta High School was established in 1892. MHS, the Marietta High School is a public high school in the Marietta City Schools system in Marietta, Georgia. The school colors are blue and white and its mascot is a blue devil. Leigh Colburn is the principal of the school. Currently it has over 2100 students in attendance. The current site for MHS was first open to students in the fall of 2001. Marietta High School was ranked in the top 5 percent of U.S. high schools according to a Newsweek report in 2006. Faculty Staff is 155.
Marietta High School provides a wide range of educational opportunities from merit level, advanced placement, and International Baccalaureate courses, to the Youth Apprenticeship program, work study programs and the Executive Internship program. MHS also offers an ESOL, the English for speakers of other languages program as well as a Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps program. Marietta High School has long been known for its exceptional sports programs. They have countless region championships and several state championships in a number of sports.
Their design focuses on a main street concept that places public facilities such as the theater, gymnasium, fitness facilities and administrative offices toward the front. Academic facilities are located toward the back of the school, anchored by the cafeteria and media center. Their awards include accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, 100 percent pass rate among International Baccalaureate students in 2003, Ranked in the top 5 percent of U.S. high schools and Newsweek 2006.
The Marietta school aims on targeting the success of their students. The institution is renowned due to qualities like supportive learning environment, respected and enthusiastic staff and faculty members, and the capability to meet the needs of the community’s wide ranging requirements.
