High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.

Lake Highlands High School is a secondary school serving grades 10-12 located in Dallas, Texas, United States. The school is located in the Lake Highlands neighborhood and is part of the Richardson Independent School District. The school mascot is Wildcat and the principal is Robert Iden and assistant principal is Mary Cagle. In 2002, the school received a blue ribbon award from the U.S. department of education. It was also named by U.S. News world report as one of the best high schools in America in 2001.

Large portions of Ron Howard's 1978 TV movie Cotton Candy were filmed at the school. The movie was about a group of friends who started a band. The school is home of the Wildcat Wranglers, one of the few high school country and western dance teams existing in the United States. The Wranglers performed for the 1996, 2000, and 2004 presidential inaugurations and in the 2005 Macy's Thanksgiving day parade.

LHHS students have distinguished themselves in academic, extracurricular, and leadership activities. Many LHHS graduates occupy positions of leadership in business, government, religion and education. Wildcat exes have also contributed significantly to many fields of endeavor including law, medicine, engineering, finance, military science, the visual and performing arts, and professional athletics. Part of the reason for the tradition of excellence at Lake Highlands High School is the expectation of success shared by the community, parents, faculty members, and students.

In May 2006, near the conclusion of the school year, muffins containing Benadryl and marijuana were delivered to the faculty. Approximately 21 teachers were sent to Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas after experiencing dizziness and lightheadedness. Lake Highlands High School is a high school with a personalized learning environment, which includes small learning communities where teachers and students integrate academic and occupational classes as a way to enhance real world relevance and still maintain high academic standards.
