High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place.

HF, Homewood-Flossmoor High School, established in 1959 is a public high school located in the southern Chicago suburb of Flossmoor, Illinois. The majority of HF students live in Flossmoor, and Homewood, Illinois, but the school also serves areas of Olympia Fields, Chicago Heights, Glenwood, and Hazel Crest. Superintendent of the school is Dr. Laura Murray and the principal is Dr. Von Mansfield. Colors for the school are red and white.

The campus consists of a north and south building. The north building has been alternately used and rented out in the decades since its construction. The south building consists of a number of lettered buildings, including a radio station, science labs, a swimming pool with diving well and seating for 700, the music building, and a newly renovated auditorium. H-F's comprehensive curriculum provides structure and traditional courses, yet offers students many options to explore and develop their individual talents. Students may choose from more than 150 courses.

Students may choose from 60 clubs, 22 intramural programs, and 26 interscholastic sports. Over 1,700 students participate in intramurals, and 1,200 participants are active in interscholastic athletics. The school as of late has seen a lot of growth, currently the school has a population of 3,000 students. The school is also often noted as one of Illinois' finer public schools, as HF has been a blue ribbon winner three times, an award given by the government to high achieving secondary schools. The school ranked 866th on Newsweek Magazine's 2006 list of America's top high schools.

There are also advanced placement classes, which offer a college-level curriculum for college credit. The quality of each student's life improves through the educational experience at Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School. The institution upholds the highest standards of intellectual growth, and ethical, aesthetic, occupational, emotional, social, and physical development in an expanding global society. With belief in the fundamental worth and dignity of all individuals and recognition of diversity of backgrounds, abilities, interests, and aspirations, individuals will learn to respect the rights of others.
