Clarke County
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
CCHS, Clarke County High School has and continues to give all of its students the knowledge and skills they need to be successful in life. CCHS's staff will continue to pursue this vision and to do whatever is necessary to ensure learning at the highest level for every child. It was established by the state of Virginia, Clarke County High School is a fully accredited public School.
CCHS is also accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The current Clarke County High School was built in 1987 under the direction of the school board and former Superintendent, Wade Johnson. Over the course of its nearly two decade history, CCHS has distinguished itself as a regional, state and national leader in academics, activities and athletics. Mrs. Francie Ball is Principal of Clarke County High School.
The 2005 to 2006 school year was extremely successful. Their boys and girls cross country teams started the year on a high note by winning another state championship. The winning ways continued in the winter when their boys' and girls' basketball teams both reached the state finals, with the boys eventually bringing home the state title. In the spring their student athletes hard work not only brought them state champions in boys' Soccer, Girls' Soccer, and Boys', track, but also allowed them to defend their Wachovia Cup title.
The Clarke County High School Guidance department is to provide a comprehensive, developmental counseling program addressing the academic, personal or social and career development of all students. Their goal is to assist all students in acquiring the skills, knowledge and attitudes needed to become effective students, responsible citizens, productive workers and lifelong learners.
