Chatham
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district. Chatham High School is an American four-year comprehensive public high school located at Chatham Township, in Morris County, New Jersey. It is part of the School District of the Chathams. The school serves students in grades 9th to 12th. Darren Groh and Michael LaSusa are Principals of the school. The name of the new high school continues the tradition of its predecessor, which was located previously on Fairmount Avenue adjacent to the train station in Chatham in a historic early twentieth century Gothic Revival building that still bears the name on its facade. The secondary level students from Chatham Township were bussed to it and, later to a senior high school on Main Street, for many years under the auspices of the former, Chatham board of education. During the 2005 to 06 school years, total student enrollment was 880, with 200 belonging to the class of 2006. They offer many departments include administration, art, business, design and technology, drama, English, mathematics, music, and physics world language. Chatham high school has an award winning marching band led by Brian Conti. Chatham High School was ranked 12th out of New Jersey's 316 public schools in New Jersey Monthly magazine's September 2006 cover story on the state's Top Public High Schools At Chatham high school, their mission is to provide a learning environment where students are challenged to reach their individual potential in the achievement of knowledge and the development of personal, cultural and democratic values essential for future success.
