Chapin
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district. Captain John L. Chapin High School is a public high school in El Paso, Texas. Chapin is located on unused land reserved for the United States Government and is a part of the El Paso Independent School District. The school enrolls close to 1700 students, almost half of which are comprised of military dependents from neighboring military installation Fort Bliss, throughout grades 9 to 12. The school also accepts students throughout the city of El Paso, Texas as part of the school's technology magnet program. Chapin High School has earned a reputation of being an institution of academia and athleticism by excelling in both fields. In 2006, students of the exiting senior class had the highest number of graduates accepted to prestigious military academies than any other High school in the United States.
Their athletics department includes football, soccer, and wrestling, cross county, baseball, and volley ball. The mission of High School for the administration, faculty, staff, students, and community is to promote academic excellence by providing opportunities and instruction through which all students can become proficient in literacy and math.
