Cardozo
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Cardozo is a public school, established in 1966. It is located in New York, USA. Cardozo is also known as Benjamin N. Cardozo High School is a high school in the Queens borough of New York City. The school is named for Benjamin N. Cardozo, who served as chief judge of the New York Court of Appeals and then as a justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Like all New York City public schools, Cardozo High School is operated by the New York City department of education. Rick Hallman is the Principal of the school.
The school is known for its Mentor Law and Humanities program, offering classes in such subjects as contract law as well as a legal internship course. In addition, the school's DaVinci Research program provides students an emphasis on scientific and mathematics, and the Performing Dance program, for which students are selected through an audition process, provides instruction in many different forms of dance with an emphasis on performance.
Cardozo High School has a plethora of extracurricular activities due to the large student population. Some activities includes leadership and support in Mediation-Negotiation, Council for Unity, Community Service, Arista, Debate Team Mock Trial, Step Team, Math Team and Painting Club etc. Some have rated it among the best public high schools in the city and in 1998, Newsweek magazine rated it one of the top 100 schools in the United States.
Cardozo also has a large number of sports teams, which are Boys in Baseball, Basketball, Cross country, Golf, Handball, Lacrosse, Soccer, Tennis, and Track etc. as well as Girls in Basketball, Cross country, Golf, Gymnastics, Handball, Softball and Swimming etc.
Their school's mission is to be a school of excellence and a school with a heart. Known for its academic achievement, Cardozo recognizes that a brilliant mind devoid of compassion is lacking the humanity that defines success.
