La Canada
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
La Canada was established in 1963. La Canada High School, LCHS is a public school. Dr. Damon Dragos is the Principal of the school. La Canada High School is a four year comprehensive secondary school located in La Canada Flintridge, California. It sits at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains, below the Angeles National Forest, in the city of La Canada Flintridge. The school is adjacent to the Freeway north of Pasadena's world famous Rose Bowl and south NASA's prestigious Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
LCHS offers a full range of academic courses, including Spanish, French, German, and Korean language classes, Band, Orchestra, and Choir programs for all levels of learning, theatre, dance, art, and creative writing classes of all kinds, science courses in Geology, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, AP, Advanced Placement and Honors courses. In addition, La Canada High School has had the second highest Academic Performance Index score among all comprehensive public high schools in southern California, a reflection of the academic excellence that it embodies.
La Canada High School competes interscholastically as a member of the Rio Hondo League in Boy's and Girl's Soccer, Volleyball, Water Polo, Basketball, Track and Field, Cross Country, Golf, and Swimming, as well as Baseball, Softball, and Boy's Football and Wrestling. In addition, LCHS also has a club Hockey and equestrian team.
LCHS's Information Resource Center, IRC opened in February 2002 and is a multi-use facility with up-to-date technology and information available to all the school's students. The IRC's mission is to prepare students for life-long learning, informed decision-making, a love of reading and the use of information technologies.
The mission of La Canada High School is to enhance the students' academic, artistic, social, and technological skills to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing and increasingly diverse society.
