High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
 
Brewster High School is a public high school, composed of grades 9 through 12, with approximately 1,000 students. It is currently accredited by the Middle States Association and is registered by the New York State Department of Education. Their professionally trained teaching staff consists of approximately 85 highly trained, skilled individuals including 10 specialists, a predominance of whom have a Masters Degree. The faculty has a diversified educational background and has received degrees from 125 colleges across the nation. Brewster is a small rural district in Putnam County located 50 miles north of New York City, with a population of over 18,000 residents. It is within commuting distance of New York City and on the fringe of Westchester County. A very high level of interest in the educational system is maintained by the community. Expenditure per pupil is presently 12,177.00 dollars. Matthew J. Byrnes is the Principal of the school.
 
Brewster High School offers a wide range of classes available to its students. A complete listing of courses is available in the course selection guide which can be found in the guidance department. Trade and Technical Education is the occupational program is open to all students during grades eleven and twelve. Four high school units are granted each year.
 
The Brewster Central School District takes pride in providing a program of interscholastic athletic activities for their students. They believe that athletics can be one of the most wholesome, exciting and valuable activities in which their student can possibly participate.  Athletics teach students to have complete control of them, to gain self-respect, to give forth their best effort, and at the same time, learn to observe the rules of the game and sportsmanship.
 
Within a safe and supportive environment, the Brewster High School community empowers all students to be responsible, caring citizens by challenging them to strive for personal excellence through rigorous and innovative academic and co-curricular programs.
