High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Walnut High School is located in Walnut, California, among the foothills of the San Gabriel Valley in Southern California. It is public school of the Walnut Valley Unified School District. The two-time National Blue Ribbon school and six time California Distinguished school is well known for its high academic standards, competitive spirit, and sharing attitude.
Walnut High School is an academically concentrated school, with students actively participating in programs such as Advanced Placement and IB, International Baccalaureate. Walnut High School has a unique administrative structure which includes one principal, one assistant principal, four instructional deans, eight grade level coordinators, an athletic director, an operations manager and the associated student body director. There are no department heads, but the four instructional deans each have an aspect of the curriculum they are responsible for supervising.
GLC, Grade Level Coordinator program replaced the traditional counselor system at Walnut in 1984 with a holistic approach to counseling. Walnut High School credits the GLC program and each GLC with accomplishments such as a drop out rate of less than one percent, a graduation rate of over 98 percent and an average daily attendance rate over 95 percent. It has one of the best contending football teams in Division VII. Although they have not won any football championships, it is one of the best regular season teams in the 2002, 2003, 2004 seasons.

Walnut High School is highly academic and offers not only several Advanced Placement courses, but a wide variety of athletic and extra curricular opportunities for all students.
