High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Valencia High School in Placentia, California was established in 1933. The WPA built many of its older buildings including the auditorium and cafeteria during the Depression. Until 1967, when El Dorado High School was built, Valencia was Placentia's only high school. Today it serves a student body of approximately 2,500 students. It is one of four high schools in the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District.
The school is located at 500 North Bradford Avenue. The school's mascot is the Valencia Tiger and its colors are blue and gold. Valencia's first IB class graduated in 2006. In 2005 the Coach for Football, Mike Marrujo was named the ABC Coach of the week and also became a finalist for the ABC coach of the year award.
