Seminole High School
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Seminole High School is a public high school located in Sanford, Florida operated by the Seminole County School District. The school's current principal is Walt Griffin and its superintendent is Dr. Bill Vogel. Seminole is known for offering the International Baccalaureate program to Seminole County students as well as their Academy for Health Careers which offers students a curriculum based on a future career in health care. The students take a Health class as well as integrated health material into the curriculum of all other subjects.
In discovered History Seminole High School was built in 1902 and the school was moved to its current location in 1911. The old school is now used as a museum to represent the rich history of Seminole County education. Seminole has grown largely from the 2 graduates in the Senior Class of 1908 to over 480 graduates in 2005. In Athletics with many of their graduates going on to play in college or professional sport, Seminole High School has a rich and proud tradition in sport and athletics.
The mission of the Seminole High School is to provide each student with an equal opportunity to succeed by promoting intellectual growth, creativity, self-discipline, cultural and linguistic sensitivity, democratic responsibility, economic competence and physical and mental health so that each student can achieve his or her maximum potential.
