High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
SRHS, Sebastian River High School first opened its doors to a new tradition in August 1994. The school, costing over dollars 27 million to build, occupies 173,043 square feet that sits on an eighty acre parcel. Sebastian River High school was definitely the Taj Mahal of schools in Indian River County. SRHS boasts a 3,750 seat sports stadium, 1,100 seat auditorium, 1,200 seat gymnasium, a 6 and half acre land and aqua lab, and high tech vocational labs, in addition a well maintained football field, 3 practice fields, 2 baseball diamonds, tennis courts, basketball hard courts and a cross country course.
The first year began with about 72 people on staff and about 822 students in 1994. Now, thirteen years later there are over 190 people on staff and over 2,000 students enrolled. SRHS consists of 8 academies and teams. They are the Medical and Culinary, MECA International Baccalaureate, IB, Advanced Academics, AA, DATA, Business, AMFAB, Environmental Science, ESA and 9th grade. SRHS definitely lives up to the slogan encouraging innovation and rewarding excellence.
Their athletic program recently received the Treasure Lake Conference Wanda H. Yarboro All Sports Trophy for overall athletic excellence. They take pride in receiving this recognition.

The mission of Sebastian River High School is the development of the mind, character, and physical well being of their students through the creation of an environment fostering academic excellence, maturity, responsibility and mutual respect. All students are expected to demonstrate effective reading, writing, listening, speaking and computational skills. In addition, students will possess the ability to solve a variety of problems in a collaborative environment, become effective communicators and critical thinkers and problem-solvers.
