Schurr High School
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Schurr High School was established in 1971 and is located Montebello, California. The students attending this school live in the Montebello-Monterey Park area. Schurr and Montebello have an ongoing rivalry that has lasted since the founding of Schurr High. Art Revueltas is the Principal of Schurr High School. The school was previously a junior high school, but because of the growing population of students it was made into a high school. The school colors are officially green and white, and gold is the unofficial color.
Schurr High School was originally built to accommodate 1,700 students. Today, Schurr's population is nearly doubled 3,352 students. Of those 3,352 students, 902 are freshman. The school officials expect more students to enroll throughout the school year. In the 2005 to 2006 school year, Schurr's population totaled 3,388. Due to overpopulation, school officials brought back two lunches for the 2005 to 2006 school year.
The mission of Schurr High School is to challenge students to maximize their potential as learners, achievers, and productive world citizens. School will offer for all Students rigorous standards based curricula in preparation for advanced educational opportunities, career paths to provide a school to career with employment and higher education, the knowledge and skill necessary to attain optimal health and physical fitness and to maintain both throughout their lives.
