Penfield
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district. Penfield Central School District is located in suburban Rochester, New York and covers nearly 50 square miles, including sections of six towns Penfield, Brighton, Perinton, Pittsford, Macedon and Walworth. The district serves approximately 4,900 students in grades K-12 at its six schools. The Penfield Central School offers a complete curriculum for students in grades 9 to 12. In addition to traditional core subjects, students can choose from a broad range of Advanced Placement offerings for college credit, as well as numerous electives in arts, music, engineering, business and more. Vocational and alternative education experiences are also made available to students. A highly skilled staff works to create a warm and welcoming environment for all students and actively encourages the involvement of parents in their children's education. In the Penfield Central Schools community, students discover and adults rediscover the joys, challenges and satisfactions of learning. The students are encouraged to pursue their learning through investigation, inquiry and reflection, while teachers provide structure and guidance. Learners are challenged to achieve high educational and personal standards so that they can make a difference in their lives and in the communities in which they live. Penfield Central School is highly academic and offers not only several Advanced Placement courses, but a wide variety of athletic and extra curricular opportunities for all students.
