Ocean Lakes
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district. OLHS, Ocean Lakes is a top high school situated in the United States. Ocean Lakes High School is a public high school in Virginia Beach, Virginia and is located in the city's southeastern section. The school's most unique feature is the Math and Science Academy; one of several magnet programs in Virginia Beach. Ocean Lakes is one of five Virginia Beach high schools ranked in the top 1200 in Newsweek's 2006 ranking of American high schools. This unique team at Ocean Lakes is completely student initiated. Inspired by wind tunnels at NASA, they strive to build Ocean Lakes High's first wind tunnel. This team is led by Project Manager Heidi Beemer and the enthusiastic sponsers Mr. Keith Leonard and Mr. Sonier. In 2006, the competition cheerleading team was coached by Ms. Seacrist. The teams won the Beach District and Regional competitions and were competitors in the State Competition. The athletics programs include baseball, basketball, men's, basketball, women's, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, men's and women's, tennis, men's and women's, track, volleyball, wrestling. Ocean Lakes is a dynamic school that promotes academic achievement, high expectations, respect, unity, and safety. Ocean Lakesstrives to develop specific goals and high academic standards, using communication and commitment within a shared learning environment. The mission of Ocean LakesSchool is to offer an environment in which all students will acquire the necessary skills to become responsible thinkers who appreciate diversity and are productive citizens in their community.
