Canyon
Canyon High School, CHS opened in 1973 and is situated on forty acres in the Southern California community of Anaheim Hills. The high school is located in Anaheim, California. A professional staff of 85 teachers, five counselors, three administrators, and activities director, a media specialist, and a college specialist serve a heterogeneous student population of 2,100 ninth through twelfth grade students. The ethnic breakdown of the student population is 21 percent Asian, 2 percent Black, 11 percent Hispanic, and 0.1 percent of the community as a whole. Canyon High School emphasizes a college preparatory program while providing opportunities for a wide variety of learning experiences.
Educational technology is trademark of Canyon. As a Digital High School Canyon was awarded over half a million dollars to enhance its existing technology program in March of 1999. Currently Canyon's technology infrastructure includes over 620 network connections and over 400 PC and Macintosh computers. Internet access has enhanced the integration of technology in the classroom. For instance, and interdisciplinary laptop immersion course.
Gloria Duncan is the Principal of the school. Enrollment is 2,153, Grades are 9 through 12. Canyon High School is a pioneer in applying innovative technology to all forms of instruction in English, history, sciences, math, and reading, while also offering specialized digital programs in video production, web design, animation, and game programming. Fresh and forward-looking in their practices, the staff and administration at CHS are on the cutting edge of contributing to their community. The Internet and cross-curricular technology integration connects Canyon students to students and academic programs throughout California and around the world.
Their educational programs are Comanche Cafe, Career Center, Career Net, Library, Music and Arts, Stellar Technology, etc. Every student will Demonstrate growth over time in all content standards, pass the high school exit exam and meet all graduation requirements, perform to their potential on a variety of tests, produce quality projects, assignments, and work, utilize technology to achieve academically. Canyon High School is committed to providing a meaningful learning environment for all students.
Canyon High School is committed to developing a community of learners able to think critically, work cooperatively and make a successful transition to the work force and society.
