Academy of Irving ISD
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Academy of Irving ISD is a career oriented public high school in Irving, Texas. It differs from other high schools in that basic career skills are tought beginning at the 9th grade level among other common subjects, these career studies proceed as the student progresses and branches out into more precise careers in that group. Academy of Irving ISD is unlike a traditional high school in that its framework incorporates six career specialization areas. The Academy is a complete high school that opened its doors during the 2001-2002 school year. This school accommodates 1700 hundred students in grades nine to twelve.
Robbin Wall is the Principal of the school and the school colors are black, white and silver. The Academy has an outstanding fine arts department and is one of only two Irving schools to have a student receive a gold seal at the State VASE competition and also has won many awards in other local competitions. Approved by Irving ISD voters as part of a school bond package in October 1997, the Academy of Irving ISD was constructed on the southeast corner of the North Lake College campus along Macarthur Boulevard in Las Colinas.
The Academy of Irving ISD is a collaborative learning society that enhances the district's high school education program. It is their mission to provide an exclusive set of relevant learning experiences to their student-customers that produces graduates who are life-long learners, effective citizens and productive members of society. They will be a countrywide recognized model of effective integration of business, community and education resources to provide students with integrated educational and career preparation.
