Pioneer High School
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Pioneer High School is located in San Jose, California. Pioneer's nationally recognized Service Learning program continues to succeed and is a model for high schools in California. Pioneer’s Advanced Placement enrollment continued to increase for the 2004 to 2005 school year. Pioneer's major focus for improvement this year will be to increase API Academic Performance Index, target to 800 through the annual redesignation of English language learners to English proficient to a commendable level.
The school has been painted inside and out, new roofs for all buildings were laid, rewiring of the plant was among the first work completed, air and heating units were installed in all classrooms and offices. Through the California Standardized Testing and Reporting, STAR program, students in grades 2 through 11 are tested annually in various subject areas. Currently, the STAR program includes California Standards Tests, CST.
Data reported regarding progress toward reducing dropout rates over the most recent three-year period include grade 9 through 12 enrollment, the number of dropouts, and the one-year dropout rate as reported. Data reported are the number and percent of student enrollment in courses required for University of California, UC or California State University CSU admission. Pioneer offers a woods and advanced woods program.
Pioneer is an outstanding comprehensive high school offering a high quality and well-rounded education to students with a variety of interests and ambitions. All academic classes at Pioneer are UC or CSU acceptable. There is a full complement of accelerated, honors and advanced placement classes in each academic subject area. Science is a special focal point offering a range of challenging, interesting classes in their indoor and outdoor laboratories.
Pioneer High School is a high school with a personalized learning environment, which includes small learning communities where teachers and students integrate academic and occupational classes as a way to enhance real world relevance and still maintain high academic standards.
