Northwest School of the Arts
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Northwest School of the Arts is a top high school situated in the United States. Their average score for 2006 was 989. For students taking AP, Advanced Placement exams, 62 percent obtained a passing scores of three or higher, the third highest in CMS. With their 10th graduating class from Northwest, their students attend some of the most prestigious universities in the country.
Northwest School students in the Arts Magnets should have a strong desire to study the arts from an academic perspective. They learn the vocabulary, discipline, and techniques of highly specialized arts areas from a largely classical perspective. To be successful in the program students should have strong academic and study skills. An ability to balance study time is essential because most disciplines require extensive study and rehearsal after regular classroom hours. The students entering the high school program will be required to participate in an audition or portfolio assessment prior to being placed in the lottery for vacant seats in the school.
