High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.

North Hunterdon High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school located in Annandale. The school serves 1,464 students from six municipalities in northern Hunterdon County as one of two high schools in the North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District. The school opened in September of 1951 and has undergone several additions over the course of time. Clifford G. Singley was the school's first principal and the football field currently bears his name. Its teams are called the Lions or Lady Lions and its mascot's name is Reggie, in recognition of the early days, when the school was known as Regional. Students in the high school hail from Bethlehem Township, Clinton Town, Clinton Township, Franklin Township, Lebanon Borough and Union Township.

For the 2001-02 school years, North Hunterdon High School was awarded the Blue Ribbon School Award of Excellence by the United States Department of Education, the highest award an American school can receive. North Hunterdon High School was the 37 ranked public high school in New Jersey out of 316 schools statewide, in New Jersey Monthly magazine's September 2006 cover story on the state's top public High Schools.

North Hunterdon High School competes in the Skyland Conference, is comprised of eighteen public and parochial high schools covering Hunterdon County, Somerset County and Warren County in west central New Jersey. The conference operates under the jurisdiction of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association, NJSIAA. North Hunterdon High School and Voorhees High School compete in the annual Milk Can Game. After the conclusion of the game, a golden milk can is awarded to the winner. This school receives bragging rights and ownership of the can until the next year's game.

The mission of North Hunterdon High School is to enhance the students' academic, artistic, social, and technological skills to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing and increasingly diverse society.
