In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.

The District is located within 30 to 60 minutes of Downtown Los Angeles. Duarte Unified is a small district, serving about 4,700 youngsters from Duarte, Bradbury and the Maxwell Park area through five elementary schools, one intermediate, one high school and one alternative education campus. The Duarte community began as a 7000 acre land grant to Don Andres Duarte in the mid-19th century. The District’s roots date to 1906, when Duarte was part of the Monrovia-Arcadia-Duarte School District. Each area separated forming separate school districts in 1954.

Duarte Unified offers a broad, rigorous curriculum that meets the California department of education content standards. Students are benefited from class-size reduction in grades K-3, as well as in 9th grade English. Intervention courses, such as before-and after-school tutoring and summer school are available for those who need extra support in attaining State standards. Duarte Unified is proud to have been selected for a variety of grants that have provided additional classroom technology and technology training. All schools have internet access and offer computers in classrooms and computer labs.

In addition to being awarded grants to bolster acquisition and use of technology, the District has also garnered state and federal library grants to build book and resource collections in classroom and school libraries. All schools are working to integrate technology into library facilities, so that students can use the Internet for research projects. They believe that all children are capable learners. Their staff focuses on helping each youngster reach his or her personal best. Their goal is to graduate students who are well-prepared for living, working and learning in a challenging world.
