High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place.

North Hollywood High School, originally called Lankershim High School when it opened in 1927, is a secondary school in North Hollywood in Los Angeles, California. The school mascot is the husky, and the school colors are grey, silver and blue. North Hollywood High School is located in the San Fernando Valley and enrolls approximately 4200 students each year. It is located in local district 2 of the Los Angeles Unified School District. Several neighborhoods, including most of North Hollywood and Woodbridge Park, are zoned to this school.

As of 2006, the school principal is Dr. Randall V. Delling. Since 2000, North Hollywood High has been a year-round school with 3 tracks A, B, and C. The school itself is divided into small learning communities that include various academies with a wide range of focuses, along with a population of students in general education and not in an academy. Portola Middle School, Walter Reed Middle School, and Sun Valley Middle School feed into North Hollywood.

Begun in 1981, this magnet is a specialized school that buses its students out to a site next to the La Zoo. The difference is that there are several classes, as well as Advanced Placement classes, related to biological and zoological sciences, which the students can choose from in place of chemistry or physics, and as general electives. Many of these classes also include trips into the zoo for tours and observation.

Begun in 1989, the Highly Gifted Magnet, HGM is a program of the Los Angeles Unified School District developed for students with an IQ over 145. North Hollywood High School is the only high school to host the HGM program, which consists of academically rigorous classes. Students can participate in clubs, teams, and academic competitions including the Academic Decathlon, a Mock Trial and Science Bowl and are recognized nationwide.

The mission of the school is to provide quality career education to students who wish to pursue respectable careers. North Hollywood High School is a thoughtful, reflective, exciting, and engaging place.
