High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
 
DHS, Davis Senior High School is the largest of three high schools located in Davis, California, in the United States. DHS is a WASC,Western Association of Schools and Colleges accredited, 3 year, public, comprehensive high school covering grades 10 to 12. The campus opened its current location in 1961. Enrollment for school year 2004 to 2005 was 1,831 students. The school's mascot is the Blue Devil. Leonardo da Vinci High School is located on the Davis Senior High School campus. Approximately 96 percent of Davis High School's 2004 graduates continued on to higher education, with 66 percent attending 4-year colleges and 30 percent attending 2-year colleges. Davis High offers 20 additional personal courses, with 80.5 percent of test takers earning a passing grade of 3 or above in 2004. 14 students were named National Merit Scholar semifinalists in 2004-2005.
 
There advanced placement courses offered in art studio, art history, literature and composition, music theory, U.S. history, U.S. government, human geography, French language and literature, economics, calculus AB, calculus BC, statistics, chemistry, physics and biology. Honors courses include honors physics, German 6 honors, American literature honors and English 10 honors. Davis High School has a proud tradition of athletic excellence. DHS is a member of the CIF, California Interscholastic Federation Sac-Joaquin Section. DHS have won five section championships in the 2005-2006 school year, in boys and girls cross country, boys’ soccer, boys’ water polo and girls swimming. Davis High's principal athletic rivals are Woodland High School and Jesuit.

DHS, Davis Senior High School is devoted to the education and individual improvement of every candidate. The school attempts to be aware and responsive in its program offerings in order to mirror the requirements of the changing world.
