Needham Broughton
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Needham Broughton is a top high school situated in the United States. Needham B. Broughton High School, or simply Broughton High School, is one of the flagship schools of the Wake County Public School System. It is located in Raleigh, North Carolina, United States. The school was founded in 1929. Broughton is the oldest high school within Wake County and is the second-oldest in North Carolina. Broughton currently serves grades 9th to 12th and for the 2005 to 2006 school year has an enrollment of approximately 2,157 students and 180 educators and administrators.
The school has in recent years undergone a technological renovation. Each room is equipped with at least one computer, and there are over six computer labs throughout the school. In addition, Broughton is serviced by the adjacent Wade Edwards Learning Lab, a program established by former Senator John Edwards that provides afterschool access to computers.
The athletics programs include baseball, basketball, men's, basketball, women's, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, men's and women's, tennis, men's and women's, track, volleyball, wrestling. Needham Broughton is a dynamic school that promotes academic achievement, high expectations, respect, unity, and safety. Needham Broughtonstrives to develop specific goals and high academic standards, using communication and commitment within a shared learning environment.
The mission of Needham BroughtonSchool is to offer an environment in which all students will acquire the necessary skills to become responsible thinkers who appreciate diversity and are productive citizens in their community.
