New Canaan High School
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district. NCHS, New Canaan High School is the only public high school in New Canaan, Connecticut. Mr. Tony Pavia is the Principal of the school. Ram is the Mascot of the school. Dr. Virginia Hurley is the Assistant Principal of the school. New Canaan High School's athletic mascot is the Ram. New Canaan's athletic teams, despite the relatively small size of the school, are regularly some of the best in Connecticut. Boys hockey, boys and girls tennis, and boys and girls lacrosse are some of its more successful squads. Its most successful squad in the past five years has been the Boys Swim Team, winning many consecutive state titles. New Canaan, with a population of 20,100, is located in Fairfield County and is a residential suburb of New York City. New Canaan High School also has strong programs in the performing and visual arts. 48.3 percent of students of the Class of 2003 attending 4 year colleges were accepted to schools ranked by Barron's Guide to the Most Competitive Colleges as Most Competitive and Highly Competitive. Number of faculty includes 112 Masters Degrees, Doctorates 9. The enrollment is 1218 in grades 9 to 12.
New Canaan High School offers the academics through different departments such as English department, physical education department, music department, career & technical education department, world languages department. New Canaan High School’s mission is to create the conditions which encourage all of their students to excel. They strive to ensure that students play an active role in their education, are guided by rigorous academic standards, and function within a community that regards students, educators, and parents as full participants in the educational process.
