High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
 
CAIT, Crooms Academy of Information Technology, locally called Crooms, is a technology magnet school located in Sanford, Florida. Widely known for being one of the few schools in the U.S. that issues laptops to every student, Crooms is much smaller than normal high schools, having a little more than 500 students. Dr. Connie E. Collins is the principal. School dress colors are orange and maroon. Crooms Academy was originally founded by a Professor Crooms as the county's first high school for Black students. In 1970 however, Crooms lost its identity and became a school for students with behavior problems, and even for pregnant teenagers. Soon, it became a school for students who struggled academically.
 
In 1973, the original building burned down and because of neglect, the other buildings deteriorated. In 2000, the school was rebuilt into a school for information technology, and still is. Dell is the number one supplier of the technology at Crooms. Each student is Issued a laptop based on class or if they were there previously, then on class and how their laptop the previous year was treated. The mission of CAIT, Crooms Academy of Information Technology is to provide their students with opportunities to obtain the skills needed to become productive, responsible citizens, capable of making positive contributions to a changing society.
