Mission Viejo High School
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Mission Viejo High School is a four year comprehensive public high school located in Mission Viejo, California, United States, as part of the Saddleback Valley Unified School District. Almost 3,000 students attended during the 2005 to 06 school year. The school has served the area since 1966. Its mascot is Pablo the Diablo and its colors are red and gold.
Mission Viejo High School has been awarded the Blue Ribbon School award of excellence by the United States department of education on three separate occasions, in 1988 to 89, 1994 to 96 and 2001 to 02 the highest award an American school can receive. Mission Viejo has been an International Baccalaureate school since July 1985. This program, taught to 132 students, is for academically talented and highly motivated students sponsored and administered by the Organization.
The mission of Mission Viejo High School is the development of the mind, character, and physical well being of their students through the creation of an environment fostering academic excellence, maturity, responsibility and mutual respect. All students are expected to demonstrate effective reading, writing, listening, speaking and computational skills. In addition, students will possess the ability to solve a variety of problems in a collaborative environment, become effective communicators and critical thinkers and problem-solvers.
