Montclair
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
MHS, Montclair High School is a complete four-year public high school located in Montclair, New Jersey, United States, as part of the Montclair Public Schools. The school is for residents of both Upper Montclair and Montclair. Melvin B. Katz is the Principal of the school. Montclair High School has consistently been recognized by Ivy League and top tier university recruiters as an institution that produces highly qualified academic candidates with social responsiveness.
The high school prides itself in achievement for all students regardless of their honors, advanced placement or special education designations. The exceptional faculty of devoted professionals continually designs programs to meet the needs of the student body. The school offers an exciting student life in visual and performing arts, business and vocational arts, academically gifted programs, sports and community involvement.
Their goal is to offer a rigorous learning environment in which all students learn more, to which all students feel connected and in which all students are vested. Toward that end, the high school offers the following smaller learning communities the civics and government institute, the center for social justice, global research, medical biology, interactive math, and the ninth grade academy.
The smaller learning communities are comprised of interdisciplinary blocks of courses, some of which are multi-year and they involve the community, parents and other stakeholders in extension activities. MHS offers 54 varsity, junior varsity and freshman athletic teams and more than 40 extracurricular and co-curricular clubs and organizations for students to develop their talents and interests.
Montclair High School is highly academic and offers not only several Advanced Placement courses, but a wide variety of athletic and extra curricular opportunities for all students.
