High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
 
Coral Gables Senior High School is a secondary school located at 450 Bird Road in Coral Gables, Florida. JoAnne Gans is the principal of this school. Gables opened its doors in 1950. Its architectural design reflects a Spanish influence with its open courtyards adorned with water fountains as per the style of the neighborhood it is located in. Over the years new buildings have been added to its 26-acre campus, most recently a new state-of-the-art three-story science building.
 
The school vision is  to knowing that all students can achieve, Coral Gables Senior High School and its support network will teach, inspire, motivate, and empower their students to become integral members and leaders of society. Coral Gables High School has a multi-ethnic student population numbering over 3,600 and reflecting the ethnic diversity of Miami-Dade County. Its student body consists of 79.2 percent Hispanic, 10.5 percent White, Non-Hispanic, 8.4 percent African American, and 1.9 percent Asian or Other nationalities. The student attendance rate is 95 percent.
 
The athletic department at Coral Gables High has a long history of achievement and excellence. From a football program that has been crowned national champion four times, to the numerous state and local championships that have been won in track, baseball, soccer, tennis, golf, and swimming. Gables continues to field teams that are a source of pride to both their school and community. Their clubs includes art club, Asian club, best buddies, bible club, history club, key club, law club, math club and many more.
 
Coral Gables Senior High School's mission is all about time that is teach, inspire, motivate, and empower their students. By working together with their support network, they create a learning environment that nurtures success and that provides for the individual needs of their diverse student population. They believe in developing students' self-esteem and confidence through academic and extra-curricular achievements.
