Monroe
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
James Monroe High School is located in Fredericksburg, Virginia. It was initially called Fredericksburg High School, but in 1939, this name was changed to honor the nation's fifth president, James Monroe. The second James Monroe High School building was constructed in 1952 and a wing was added in 1959. From 1981 to 1983, a large renovation project modernized the entire building and another wing was added.
James Monroe High School carried 8th through 12th grades. The principal of the school is Dr. Daryl Chesley. The school mascot is the Yellow Jacket and school colors are orange and black. The student body of the school is made of about 810 students. James Monroe is well known in its region for its football, field hockey, academic and other diverse athletic and competitive teams, as well as its band and orchestra. James Monroe High School is fully recognized by the Virginia State Department of Education.
