Metro Academic & Classical
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Metro Academic and Classical School is a high school in St. Louis, Missouri. Metro Academic and Classical High School, a school with the custom of nurturing and developing the college bound, self-motivated student who seeks challenge. Their curriculum offers a scholarly program. The faculty, staff and administration are devoted to personal and intellectual development and committed to offering educational excellence.
The principal is Wilfred Doug Moore. A member of the St. Louis Public Schools, it serves about 300 students from 9th to 12th grade. In 2006, the school was placed 40th on Newsweek's Top 1200 High Schools list. In 2004, Metro Academic was recognized as a Blue Ribbon School. This school is a part of the IB, International Baccalaureate program. On November 2nd, 2006, Metro students won first, second, and third prize in the National Vocabulary Competition. Metro's girl’s basketball team won first place in their division at the state championships in 2006 and were runners-up in 2004 and 2005.
At Metro Academic and Classical School, their mission is to provide a challenging and quality education that will focus on high standards and expectations in an environment of unity, enthusiasm, caring and respect for self and others.
