High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
 
Mills University Studies High School was opened in 1970. Little Rock Mills serves students in grades 9 through 12 and is one of six high schools within the Pulaski County Special School District in Pulaski County, Arkansas. Mr. Bill Barnes is the principal of the school. Mills is accredited through the North Central Association. It was recently ranked as the 20th best high school in the nation according to the value of the ratio that exists between numbers of graduating seniors compared with the number of AP, Advance placement exams administered to those seniors.
 
The Mills program emphasizes involvement in the Advanced Placement Program which allows students to earn college credit through integration in the high school curriculum. The Scholars Program offers a comprehensive selection of PAP, pre-advanced placement and AP, advanced placement courses that assist students in their preparation for college. Mills University Studies was named to be among the top 100 best high schools in the nation according to the Newsweek magazine's Top 1200 US Schools.

Mills University Studies High School has a variety of regular classes, advanced placement classes, and classes for students with special needs. Mills endeavors to provide an education that will nurture and motivate each student to learn and be successful. Mills students have consistently receives recognition for academic excellence including that U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, National Merit Finalists, Advanced Placement Scholars. The mission of Mills University Studies High School is to challenge students to maximize their potential as learners, achievers, and productive world citizens.
