Lone Peak
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Lone Peak High School is a public high school located in Highland, Utah, in northern Utah County. It is part of Alpine School District. It was created in 1998 to meet the need of the towns of Alpine, Highland and Cedar Hills. The Principal of the school is Chip Koop. The school mascot is a Knight and school colors are Maroon and Gold.
Lone Peak High School offers several Honor and Advance Placement classes throughout the year as well as several off-campus classes at several different colleges such as BYU, University of Utah and several business and technical colleges. The fine arts department at Lone Peak is diverse. The drama department produces two musicals and several plays each year and has a competitive Shakespeare team. Lone Peak also has a choir, headed by Lois Johnson, as well as ballroom dance, speech, debate and various visual art and sculpture programs.
Lone Peak High School's sports teams have won 12 different championships as of the 2004-2005 school year. The current sports at Lone Peak are boy’s basketball, girl’s basketball, wrestling, swimming, football, boy’s tennis, girl’s tennis, track, baseball, cross country, girl’s volleyball, golf, boy’s soccer, girl’s soccer, softball, and cheer.
Lone Peak High School is highly academic and offers not only several Advanced Placement courses, but a wide variety of athletic and extra curricular opportunities for all students.
