High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
 
CHS, Clairemont is a top high school situated in the United States Clairemont High School is a high school located in the Clairemont neighborhood of San Diego, California belonging to the San Diego Unified School District. As of 2005 there were approximately 1,350 students and 87 certified staff members. It has accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Claremont’s mascot is the Chieftain.This school is ranked 848 on Newsweek's 2005 list of the Best High Schools in America. Mary Catherine Swanson started the AVID,Advancement Via Individual Determinationprogram at Clairemont High in 1980 with 32 students. Clairemont High includes a program for highly gifted students called the Gate Seminar program.

When CHS opened its doors in 1958, it consisted of no senior class, a junior class consisting of mostly new juniors from Mission Bay High School nearby in Pacific Beach. The sophomore class of 1962 was coming from its neighbor, Marston Junior High. There was no freshman class. In 1960, the two closest rivals were Kearny High and Mission Bay High. Their newest rivals are crosstown locals Madison High. Clairemont High School was named after Clairemont itself: a huge housing development of onetime GOP congressman Clair Burgener, who named Clairemont after his wife in the Fifties. It is located close to the intersection of Balboa Ave and Clairemont Drive in Clairemont.

The mission of Clairemont High School is to provide their students with opportunities to obtain the skills needed to become productive, responsible citizens, capable of making positive contributions to a changing society.
